Why blog? – Next Orbit

Honestly, I have only two clear reasons:

  1. To share
  2. To learn

I feel I have experienced a lot in my personal & professional life which I periodically share at individual and on professional platforms. This has woven into a beautiful emotional chord with my large professional family. I want to reach out to many more by connecting with the larger population to help them in their life. I want to be their true Mirror, their Sounding Board. I am reminded of a meaningful story which I had come across, in my earlier days, which has stuck to me ever since –

It is a mythical tale, dated back to the Aztec civilization. There was a huge fire in one of the rainforests in Mexico… all the animals and birds were trying to escape, rampaging through the forest, creating only commotion and chaos. One large bird, fleeing away, suddenly noticed a tiny bird, trying to get in as much water in its beak, then hopping closer to the fire, trying hard to douse it with its little feet and the water. The large bird, came sweeping down, berating the bird for its stupidity and asked “what are you trying to achieve by doing this?” The little bird earnestly replied “This is my home and I cannot just watch it burn. I will do what I can, in every little way I can in my capacity to save the forest.” The large bird was taken aback and immediately inspired by the little one, started collecting water as well. All the other animals and birds eventually joined them, successfully extinguishing the fire completely!

Just like this little bird, I want to do everything I can within my capacity and leveraging on the years of experience and wisdom that I have gathered and reach out to every one of you. In my professional career, I have seen young managers/ fresh graduates looking forward to genuine advice and personalised grooming to succeed in their career. I have monitored careers of many bright professionals where they have messed up their success journey, got stuck at middle management level, just by leaping to few un-thoughtful, instinctive decisions. I intend to help young professionals cope up with their work-place problems, enhance their personal growth and be instrumental in multiplying their self-awareness. I also want to be an ‘alternative Avenue of thoughts’ for entrepreneurs and seasoned professionals. Moreover, when you share, you also learn. First, the learning of expressing your own thoughts and of course, the feedback you receive. Today’s young generation is bright and vibrant. They are less inhibited and unconventional. I want to learn from them.

So, why do I call my blog: Placebo-Effect?

Like Economics, in life too, we all have “Wants”/ “Desires”/ “Aspirations”/ “Ambitions “…we are a bundle of “Needs”. At the same time, opportunities and resources are increasingly limited around us. There is intense competition for the same opportunities and resources. What we desire is no more simple and easy to achieve. While fighting this crucial battle on a daily basis, generally we tend to develop a “myopic” view around us…We struggle to grab what is beyond and we go totally blind to what we have “within” us. We look around for convenient and easy short cuts without realising that the answer is very much within us. The way our body fights back infections and ailments even without medication, we too have that strength to resurrect in our life. In our Mythology, Ayurveda and even in modern Medical research, it is proven that our mind and body do respond to Placebo. I too want to act as a placebo in your life.

… A non-intrusive catalytic platform for you to ignite and reclaim your control over mind and soul.

Finally, remembering Rabindranath Tagore:
“Everything comes to us that belong to us if we create the capacity to receive it.”

  • Dear Bhai,

At first, the photograph on the web page truly captures YOU. It brings back memories that reinforce what is mentioned on the web page with the experiences I had. Your reaching out thru the blog, apart from being an act of courage and conviction, is a true measure of your passion and the fire burning within to make a difference. I remember many conversations wherein you shared what you’d really want to do and this website is a concrete step towards those altruistic and very welcome goals. The analogy of the conviction of the little bird, whose passionate belief in wanting to make a difference and thereby enrolling others such that the contribution to making a difference happens, is impactful and a story that is simple but effective demonstrating the power within each which is empowering. Prior to Gettysburg address Abe Lincoln gave a breakthrough paradigm statement that triggered a dynamic search within to those impacted by its simple philosophy and turned around their lives… He said ” I don’t like him…I must get to know him better”. This paradigm has changed my life view forever and I am sharing this with you as it resonates today on reading your blog since the first barrier to make a difference, apart from the belief that ” I really can make a difference”, is our ability to go beyond our daily filters of life and reaching out to each with a opinion that ” everyone matters”. Your website a d thoughts reiterate that ” Everyone matters, I matter, they matter… All matter” and each of us has the power to shift reality and make a difference. Thank you for bringing this out so powerfully.

    Warm Regards

  • “Just like this little bird, I want to do everything I can within my capacity and leveraging on the years of experience and wisdom that I have gathered and reach out to every one of you.”- Love the way technology helps the bridging between the needy and the givers to remove asymmetries in the world. Inspiring post.

  • Sir,Great to read your blog. Will suggest you to publish some motivational books. You have wonderfull writing skills.

  • Hi Bhagwat,

    Excellent post. Very inspiring.

Thanks for being that little bird in initiating the casue of sharing and spreading the awareness among the professionals throug thought provoking and inspiring articles which we seldom dont see as the professionals are averse to sharing their knowledge for the fear of thier failures.
In the corporate world HR is considered to be a post box function for the management often perceived as personnel management catering to doing few routine jobs like recuritments, payroll and adminstrative tasks.
It is high time HR ftaternity comes light thru some top leadership and the capability to transform the orgnisation which is very vital for the growth of any business.
Thanks for being the change that you are.

    • Dear Jayalakshmi,
Thanks for your comments Your thoughts on HR involvement definitely strike a balance with my own personal familiarity. Most of the CXOs believe that strategic human resources function is crucial but ineffective and always fails to provide value to the organization. I believe, HR has to lead an organisation to a level where people become differentiator. I see very few HR leaders, moving away from ‘window dressing’ and willing to stand up and show quality of courage.
      Warm Regards,
      Bhagwat
